Australia's Rosemary Sims wins International Cheerleading Coach of the Year | |||
The International All Star Federation (IASF) based in the USA being the Worldwide Governing Authority for Cheer & Dance in partnership with Cheer Coach & Advisor magazine has recognized Australia's Rosemary Sims of Cheerleading Victoria as "someone that works tirelessly to promote the sport of cheerleading and a person that other Australian coaches admire and that young people look up to as a mentor and role model" by awarding her with the 2008 World’s Top International Cheer Coach Award. Rosemary is the first person to win this award outside of the USA. The IASF's World’s Top International Cheer Coach Award aims to congratulate and thank the efforts of All Star cheerleading coaches from around the globe who are working hard to ensure that their athletes are safely and properly educated and Cheer & Coach Advisor publisher, Carolyn Silberman said the quality of nominations this year was very high, which made judging the entries difficult. “We were thrilled with the nominations received and had a hard time selecting the best of the best. All coaches who were nominated should feel special as they are all winners in the eyes of the people they coach. Rosemary's nominations stood out as we were impressed with the dedication and commitment she obviously demonstrates to not only her own students but the nominations from her fellow coaches all over Australia thanking her for her high level of support she provides to all manner of coaches and students no matter their ability was what set her apart." Rosemary received her award at the IASF Cheer & Dance World Championships on 25th April 2008 which is held at the Walt Disney World Resort, Orlando, Florida USA in front of over 2000 of the best and cheer coaches from around the World. The 2008 International All Star Federation (IASF) Cheerleading & Dance Worlds Championships is the pinnacle of this growing sport as evidenced by the 10,000 athletes, 400 teams, 14,000 spectators, (24,000 people) from over 35 countries who attended this one of a kind event. All-Star, competitive Cheerleading is what most people recognize as "Bring it On /ESPN cheerleading". It is a fast paced, dynamic sport that encompasses stunt, tumbling, tosses and dance & requires dedication and a strong work ethic from the male and female athletes that participate. It is as physically demanding as any other mainstream sport and is one of the fastest growing team based athletic sports in the world. Rosemary is the owner and head coach of Dancers Edge & Cheerleading Victoria based in Wantirna, Victoria as well as being the founder / director of the “Australian All Star Cheerleading Federation” (AASCF), IASF World Advisory Board member, International Cheerleading Union (ICU) Rules Committee member, IASF Level 6 accredited Coach & AACCA safety accredited coach . Rosemary is also the Australian Regional Director and Coach Creditor of the IASF/USASF for Australia and IASF Cultural Dance Committee member.
